Grade R aims to bridge the gap between pre-school and Grade 1. Having the Grade R classes on the school campus allows our ‘little girls’ to observe the ‘big girls’ and start to feel comfortable in the formal school environment whilst still following their own informal but structured learning programme. Girls are taught and supported by a dedicated class teacher and full-time assistant.
The Grade R classrooms are open from 07:30. Girls socialise and play quiet games with friends in any of the three classrooms before the school day begins. The Grade R day consists of structured activities and guided free playtime. Literacy and numeracy are taught in a fun, non-intimidating manner incorporating music, movement and multiple opportunities to learn new concepts. isiXhosa lessons and a visit to the school library form part of the weekly programme.
The Grade R school day ends at 12:30. Private extra-mural activities, including drama, ballet and judo are offered for Grade R girls although we encourage parents to allow their daughters to enjoy some free time in the afternoons.
Aftercare facilities are available. For more detailed information regarding aftercare, click on the Aftercare tab.
