In small classes of approximately 25, our motivated and caring teachers strive to provide a nurturing environment to enable learners to reach their full potential. The carefully structured curriculum is rooted in the principles of outcomes-based education and continually reviewed to ensure the girls are equipped with the skills they need. A firm foundation is laid in literacy and numeracy. Reading for enjoyment is actively encouraged and our well-stocked library is extensively utilised. English is the medium of instruction and girls are taught Xhosa from Grade R and Afrikaans from Grade 1.

Rustenburg offers three Grade R classes. Each class has a teacher and teacher’s assistant and a pre-school programme is followed.

In Grade R we have lots of fun,
Where teachers and friends are number one.
Learning to count is not all,
By the end of the year we’ve grown quite tall.
On our outings we learn a lot,
Like how the leopard got its spots.
Plenty of themes and time to play,
We’re always tired by the end of the day.
So if a new school is making you wonder,
There’s no time to further hesitate or ponder.
Rustenburg Girls’ is the school for you
To start your daughter’s life anew!

In the Foundation phase there is integration across the curriculum. Teachers plan together so that the same work is covered in each class. Mathematics and reading are taught in small groups. In the Intermediate and Senior Phases, subject integrity is maintained, together with appropriate integration. There is subject teaching in Grade 7, with class teaching in the rest of the school.

As a part of the eight Learning Areas, art, technology, computer literacy, book education, singing, cookery and physical education are taught by specialist teachers. Life skills, needlework and entrepreneurial skills are also taught. Religious education is taught on a multi-faith basis. Technology aims to instil an ability to run a project from beginning to end and focuses on the thinking and planning processes behind every project. Computer instruction is given to each child from Grade R to Grade 7 in our computer centre, with 30  workstations, and all classrooms in the Intermediate and Senior Phases have a computer with internet access. By the time they leave for high school, learners are equipped to use a computer competently and independently. Grade 4 to 7 classes have access to electronic whiteboards and data projectors.

Academic progress is carefully monitored throughout the year. Regular meetings are held on an individual basis with parents. Rustenburg girls have achieved excellent results in the Mathematics Olympiad and Interschools General Knowledge, Debating and Kids' Lit Quiz competitions.
